1936-37: creation of La Fée Électricité at the Palais de Chaillot

At the request of his brother Raoul, Jean Dufy actively participated in the painting of La Fée Électricité for the 1937 Exposition Internationale de Paris. His role consisted of gathering historic and iconographic documents about electricity to decorate the pavilion of the Compagnie Parisienne de Distribution d’Électricité (C.P.D.E.) designed by architect Robert Mallet-Stevens. He carried out research on the various men having contributed to the rapid success of this invention and drew the preparatory sketches, while also laying out the portraits of the 119 experts represented on this monumental 6,500-ft² (600-m²) mural painting.
